Organizing Process Information
Each and every one of us makes up processes and maps them in his mind almost every day of our lives. Everytime we say to ourselves: “from now on whenever xyz happen I am going to respond by…” we plan a process. The planning information we map in our mind needs to be organized in order for us to follow the plan and provide a positive response.
One of our goals is to organize process information as closesly as possible to the way it is organized in our minds. When we have tried to use process systems in the past we noticed that process information was usually expressed as sort of a workflow of boxes and decision points(e.g. BPMN ). this makes understanding the process and planning it virtually impossible. We found that on one workflow page you could only see a very small number of tasks and flows. As we built more incresingly complex process we need to page back and forth endlessly just to understand a single process.
When we “view” process information our mind we mentally organize the information in a much more layered and structured manner thereby making a birds eye view and understanding of the process much easier. We believe that emphasizing the layers as opposed to the flow in the representation and organization of process information will greatly simplify process planning.
Bottom line: All these crazy sophisticated graphics notations of processes that look like blueprints to the next supercomputer should be done away with in favor of a structured, top-down notation that can easily be read and understood.
